Monster Reading Scheme

The Monster reading scheme was popular in the late 1970s and 1980s. Written by Ellen Blance and Ann Cook, illustrated by Quentin Blake, published in 1979 by Longman Group Ltd.

Bangers and Mash

Alongside the Bangers and Mash reading books, they were also Bangers and mash workbooks. Doesn;t ring any bells for me, but I'm sure it does for someone out there!

The Gayway Series

These ring a bell as well, I'm sure I remember these at the age 6 or 7 level. It's amazing how many memories you can stir up doing this!

Very early on in Primary School we used this series as well, I can remember the later ones clearer than these ones.

Ginn 360's Reading Scheme

Ginn 360 reading scheme, this scheme seemed to last for several school year, again very easy to remember from the brightly coloured covers.

Just found some more pictures of these titles, the thing I do remember about these books was the text seemed very small after the Roger Redhat books.

The Three Pirates and the Griffin

We then progressed onto the Three Pirates and the Griffin. These featured Benjamin the Blue Pirate, Roderick the Red and Gregory the Green. Again they were written by Shelia McCullagh. They also came with an audio tape and also large posters of each of the main characters.
